  • Mike Absher

I was born and raised in Southern Illinois. I grew up in a "car family" on both the maternal and paternal-side as both of my grandfathers and both parents were car dealers. I started working in the shop as a custodian starting at age 12, and worked at the dealership until graduation from high school.

I graduated Marion (Illinois) High School and then was admitted to and attended the United States Military Academy at West Point New York with the intention of being a career Army officer. I ultimately left the Academy and the Army voluntarily and returned home. I then enrolled in SIU-Carbondale and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in entrepreneurship. I worked at the family dealership throughout my college years as a warranty administrator and service writer.

Upon graduation, I was employed as Parts and Service Director, sales manager, used vehicle manager until I left the family company in 2003 to start a software firm named DealerWare LLC selling F&I Menu Selling software to car dealerships. We were very successful and this was the wildest ride of my life. We ultimately were endorsed by American Honda and were in the process of rolling out our software to the Honda dealerships nationwide, when our biggest competitor decided to take me out. And so, they did, and I sold DealerWare in 2006 to DealerTrack, Inc.

I decided to get back into the business I missed so much and purchased Marion Ford, Inc in my hometown. I have since purchased three other dealerships, in Marion IL, Paducah KY, and Madisonville KY, and that has evolved into the Watermark Auto Group.

I have played the trumpet for nearly 38 years, and enjoy every opportunity I get to play in a brass quintet with some friends from high school and college. I also enjoy woodworking, and have lots of cool equipment that is really dangerous, but I never turn on because I am too busy in the car business.

I have been married for 21 years to Cheryl, who is a licensed non-practicing attorney. We have three sons aged 16, 13, and 10.

I recently retired from service on the Southern Illinois Healthcare Board of Trustees which is the largest employer in our region with 3300 associates. I serve as the President of our local school board, and enjoy lending my time and talents to all organizations that are crazy or desperate enough to want or need my help.

  • Rick Duncan
    General Manager

I was born and raised in Paducah and have lived here most of my life. The only exception being four years spent in Detroit working my way thru college.

I have been "car crazy" for as long as I can remember. I learned to drive in my father's 1957 Ford Ranchero, a vehicle that my twin brother and I still own to this day.

I started in the automobile business in 1983 at a Pontiac-Lincoln-Mercury dealership. One year later I joined Allan Rhodes Chrysler-Honda and have been "here" ever since. "Here" has certainly changed over the years. We added BMW a year after I joined Allan Rhodes and in May of 1993, I and two partners bought Allan Rhodes out and changed the name to Bluegrass Honda-BMW. Mike Absher and I became friends several years ago and in October 2009 we completed a transaction that made Mike and his wife Cheryl the new owners of Bluegrass.  Mike has since started the Watermark Auto Group in 2016, the Bluegrass Honda changed names to Watermark Honda.

I am married to my best friend Kathy and we have four kids and six grandkids. In my spare time I enjoy restoring vintage automobiles, any kind of racing, and traveling back roads.

My wife, Jessica Colburn, is an RN by day and a wonderful mother of two by night. My wife and I spend all of our free-time with our two girls, Mary-Kate and Olivia Grace.

Mary-Kate is a gearhead, just like her Daddy, and rides ATV's and bicycles. She like anything to do with the outdoors. Olivia is just a baby, but she is already a Daddy's girl too.

I have been in the car business for over 12 years. It all started in auto detailing while earning my bachelor's degree. After college was completed, I decided that I loved cars and car people too much to give it I stuck with it. I moved up into sales; years later into management.

Years later, Watermark approached me and that opportunity of a lifetime ensued. Today, I am thankful to be with other car guys, who always want to do the right thing for our customers and truly make work fun. I work with some of the best people that I have ever known and it is really a "dream job". I get to help people, talk to other car people and be an active member of the community.

A few years ago I would have told you my hobbies were fast cars, big trucks, remote controlled cars and pretty much anything to do with cars. But truly, my hobby is my family. My wife and girls are my motivation.
